Lyons Unity Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3215 Lyons Avenue, Houston, Texas, was organized with 251 charter members at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, under the officiation of the late Rev. L.H. Simpson.

This organization was conceived in the minds of these faithful and tireless members who met regularly in the home of late Bro. and Sis. Jack Perkins, 2920 Clementine Street. The name Lyons Unity was voted upon and accepted after it was submitted by Sis. Willie B. Hamilton and Bro. Frank Wallace. The motto Isaiah 40:31, was submitted by Bro. Leon Davis and accepted by the body.

On March 1, 1964, members marched from the Houston Fire Station on Gregg Street to their renovated building at 3301 Lyons Avenue, where worship services were held until April 17, 1966. The late Rev. Charles M. Oliver and the late Rev. Horace Anderson conducted services until a pastor was appointed.

Rev. Oliver Carlton Johnson, Sr. became the first pastor on July 5, 1964, warmly welcomed with his wife Faye and their children Carletta, Andrea, Carla Faye, and Oliver Jr. Later, they welcomed another son, Chris. Plans to build a church edifice began in September 1964.

On April 17, 1966, members marched from Gregg and New Orleans Streets into the new sanctuary, with a sermon by Rev. W.H. Banks. In 1971, they purchased 1.25 acres for a parking lot, including a business and rental houses. Between 1972-1973, they made improvements inside the sanctuary and added a shelter connecting the church building and cafeteria.

The church continuously advanced forward under the leadership of our late pastor, Rev. O. C. Johnson Sr., who departed life on January 21, 2003, having served 39 years as our leader.

After the death of Rev. O. C. Johnson Sr., Rev William Jordan became pastor in July 2003 and left as pastor in July, 2021.

On April 23, 2022, Rev. Delwin E. Benton was elected as pastor, with his wife Richarria becoming the 1st Lady and their children Dylan and Delaney joining as the 1st Family. Under Pastor Benton's leadership, the church has expectation of continued spiritual and financial growth, guided by love, unity, and God Almighty.

We are "Lyons Unity The Church Unified in Christ" under the leadership of  Pastor Delwin E Benton!
